About the Role
The Company is seeking a Managing Director of Technical Activities to lead and oversee the strategic direction, business operations, and support services for its diverse technical societies, councils, and communities. The successful candidate will be responsible for engaging a large number of technical professionals, managing a significant number of publications, conferences, and standards, and ensuring that all activities align with the mission to advance technology for the benefit of humanity. This role involves a high level of business experience, including the management of a complex budget, growing revenue streams, and developing a large staff. The Managing Director will also be tasked with fostering strong relationships with a dynamic group of board members, volunteers, and committees, and must be adept at resolving business challenges in a highly political environment. Applicants for the Managing Director position should have 15-20 years of related work experience, with at least 7-10 years in a management role. A background in association management, particularly within a 501(c)(3) organization, is preferred. The ideal candidate will have a broad business background, hands-on knowledge of multiple business models, and a strong foundation in customer and volunteer relationship management. Essential qualifications include the ability to communicate effectively, work well with diverse teams, and a commitment to the values of trust, growth, global community building, partnership, service to humanity, and integrity in action. The role requires domestic and international travel and demands a professional with a deep understanding of the technical and ethical implications of technology, as well as a passion for the continuous development and use of technology for the betterment of society.
